Foche e otarie
Spesso si confondono foche e otarie. Le otarie, come i leoni marini, hanno piccole orecchie esterne e riescono a "camminare" sulle pinne. Le foche invece non hanno orecchie visibili e sulla terra si spostano strisciando sulla pancia.
Curiosità
- Le vibrisse, i baffi, sono sensibilissime e permettono di percepire i movimenti dei pesci anche al buio.
- Alcune specie riescono a restare sott'acqua per più di un'ora.
- I cuccioli della foca groenlandese nascono con un mantello bianco candido, che perdono dopo poche settimane.
La foca monaca del Mediterraneo
